Why We've Introduced Print & Paint Together Sessions

Print & Paint Together Art Sessions in Cirencester

There's something different about making art with someone, rather than just being in the same room while they make their own thing.

That's the idea behind our newest session at the Makery Nook: Print & Paint Together, launching on 27th August with 4 session times to choose from.

BTW - this is instead of the originally publicised 11-16 Print Making Workshop, we thought we'd try something different while we had the opportunity, let me explain why...

Where the idea came from

Our current workshops are built around tweens and teens working on their own projects, developing their own skills, at their own pace. We're really looking forward to running them - but they're designed for kids to be independent, and for a good reason: that independence is part of what makes those sessions valuable.

However, the opportunity for a parent or grandparent to sit down next to their child for an hour and actually make something togetheris not so common. In fact it's something I have wanted to do with my own daughter in the past, go to a art session together.

Anyway, so that's what we have created.

What makes creating together different

Creating something side by side with someone changes the experience in a few small but real ways:

  • It's a shared focus. You're not doing something else while they paint, you're in it with them, working out together whose turn it is with the roller.
  • It levels the playing field a little. A parent isn't instructing, and a child isn't being supervised, you're both just having a go, which tends to loosen everyone up.
  • The finished piece means more. A canvas bag, a set of cards, or a print you made with your child or grandchild is a different kind of keepsake than one they made alone.
  • All materials provides and mess contained. Having all the materials to hand isn't always possible and having yet another thing to tidy up is just not what we need!

What the sessions look like

Print & Paint Together is an hour-long session designed for pairs - an adult and their child, maybe siblings, or friends. All sitting down side by side to create something. Under 11's need an adult with them, but we encourage that adult to join in. (Don't panic if you're not arty, there will be projects available for all levels).

On the day, there will be a choice of projects you can pick and with all materials provided and guidance on hand throughout.

We're running four sessions across the day, so there should be a slot that fits around your plans:

  • 10:30am – 11:30am
  • 11:45am – 12:45pm
  • 1:00pm – 2:00pm
  • 2:15pm – 3:15pm

It's £9.50 per person to attend, and everyone leaves with what they made together.

We'd love to see you there.
